What is Project 25?

Project 25 is an extensive 887-page agenda purportedly advocating for “conservative” policies, mirroring governance models in Hungary, Russia, and China. This plan, presented in eloquent and seemingly compassionate language, proposes removing parental rights concerning their children’s healthcare and women’s autonomy over their healthcare decisions.

Acknowledging governmental overreach that has harmed individuals and groups, it’s clear that change is necessary. However, Project 25, spearheaded by the GOP, proposes alarming limitations on personal freedoms. These include restrictions on divorce, abortion, same-sex marriage, gender-affirming care, environmental protection, and food source safeguards, all under the guise of securing individual liberties and reducing government control.

The four primary objectives of the Grand Ol’ Party outlined in Project 25 are to 1- restore the family unit, 2 -dismantle government bureaucracy, 3- defend national sovereignty, and 4- secure individual freedoms. However, these goals seem to mask an agenda that undermines civil liberties and promotes a narrow, nationalist agenda.

Who is VIkor Orbán?

Viktor Orbán, Hungary’s Prime Minister, is noted for implementing similar policies aligned with conservative and nationalist ideals. Orbán’s initiatives include family support programs, anti-LGBTQ+ legislation, conservative values in education, restrictions on NGOs, and media control. These actions prioritize homogeneity, traditional values, and centralized power, often at the expense of diversity, individual rights, and democratic principles.

While Project 25 claims to champion individual rights, its implementation and alignment with Orbán’s policies suggest a more authoritarian agenda that seeks to restrict personal freedoms and consolidate power under the guise of patriotism and traditionalism.

“There’s nobody that’s better, smarter, or a better leader than Viktor Orbán. He’s fantastic,” our former president boasted to a crowd gathered for a concert at his Florida resort.

In case you’re unfamiliar, Viktor Orbán, the Prime Minister of Hungary, has gained notoriety for enacting social policies aligned with his conservative and nationalist beliefs:

  1. He initiated family support programs to increase the birth rate, offering incentives such as tax breaks, subsidies, and mortgage assistance for families with children. However, these measures may inadvertently exclude single parents, same-gendered parents, and likely individuals from minority communities.
  2. Orbán implemented anti-LGBTQ+ legislation, imposing restrictions on LGBTQ+ content in educational materials and media intended for minors. Critics argue that these measures effectively criminalize LGBTQ+ identities and hinder understanding and acceptance among children.
  3. His education policies emphasized conservative values by integrating traditional Hungarian principles and history into textbooks and curricula. Critics fear this approach may distort historical truths and falsely attribute national greatness solely to these policies.
  4. Orbán’s administration imposed restrictions on non-governmental organizations (NGOs), particularly those receiving foreign funding and focusing on human rights and democracy. This move is seen as limiting the influence of civil society and independent advocacy.
  5. He centralized control over the media by implementing measures to concentrate ownership, leading to concerns about limited independent journalism and the potential suppression of diverse viewpoints.

Orbán’s social policies, while purportedly aimed at promoting national identity and stability, have faced criticism for their exclusionary and authoritarian tendencies, particularly regarding LGBTQ+ rights, education, civil society, and media freedom.

These are the four goals of the Grand Ol’ Party as detailed in Project 25:

1. Restore the family as the centerpiece of American life and protect our children.

(Protect our children from learning about sex, gender, and our societal history of subjugating minority races and from their parents affirming their gender identity)

2. Dismantle the administrative state and return self-governance to the American people.

(Destroy the EPA, the FDA, and other government agencies designed to protect America and Americans from corporations greedily destroying resources and exploiting their power)

3. Defend our nation’s sovereignty, borders, and bounty against global threats.

(Work hard to eliminate any race other than white from within their borders and promote the idea that being straight and white makes their country the greatest in the world)

4. Secure our God-given individual rights to live freely—what our Constitution calls “the Blessings of Liberty.”

(The president would then be the judge of whether our “rights” interfere with societal and national “interests.”)

Talking about politics at a time like this may seem inflammatory and ill-considered. But I am seriously concerned for our nation. The GOP is making concerted efforts to remove what semblance of democracy we have left.

Does reform need to be made? Absolutely. Do I think we need to “tear up the constitution”? Absolutely not. What do you think?
